Siren

Surrealist artist Alex Gross features striking, dreamlike imagery that transcends category. Danielle de Picciotto is an american artist living in Berlin, Germany. She works as a painter, illustrator, filmaker and musician.
Danielle de Picciotto beckons us irresistibly, into the lands of whimsy that flow with such soulful precision from her pen. Anything – the dissonant, the miraculous, the doomed – is possible here, but not without a price. This is the stuff of fairytales from the old school; a happy ending is by no means a given.

Pride, 2006

Ukrainian culture is filled with Baroque images. One of its brightest spokesmen – Arsen Savadov – confirms this thesis by dissolving in his art its vortical structure and ceremonial splendor, which borders on Gogol’s penetrating dramatic character.
Some images are from artnet.

As an avid SCUBA diver, my soul lies with the sea. This artist is local to me but his work is worldwide. Good stuff.
from the artist’s website:
Artist, J. Vincent Scarpace creates original works of fine art in acrylic, watercolor, oils, pastels, and other mediums – almost always within a ‘fish’ theme. The original works of J. Vincent Scarpace (best known for his abstract fish art) represent, in his own words, ā€œa personal journey through the use of basic of art elements: line, shape, and color – resulting in an arrival, just past experimentation, at unique works of art which purposely resemble fish.ā€ He’s followed his passion for the creative process, discovering that therein may lay the true reason for his next work of art – the pursuit of one’s own creative potential.

Joe Sorren (born 1970, Chicago) is an American conceptualist lowbrow artist.
There are people in the paintings of Joe Sorren, but they’re not quite human. We have ways to relate — they hold instruments, they take pictures, they build sand castles by the sea — but there is something in them that is not like us.

Big Family-2008A

More than any other Chinese artist, Zhang, with his huge paintings depicting family photographs taken during the Cultural Revolution, has captured the imagination of international collectors. Prices for his work have skyrocketed at auctions over the last three years. Perhaps more than any other artist in this group, Zhang Xiaogang has departed the most from his early works, and evolved the most over time. No living Chinese contemporary artists who began working after 1979, when avant-garde art was first produced here, is as acclaimed or as hot right now as Zhang Xiaogang.
